"Charlie Charlot", commented film concert, for a pianist and a beatboxer

"I will tell you the extraordinary story of Charlie the Tramp…"
A very original film concert: through the evocation of Chaplin's childhood and youth, Jean-Claude Guerre tells us about the birth of the character of Charlie Chaplin.

Charles Chaplin's destiny is incredible: with a disastrous childhood, between an alcoholic father who died prematurely and a mother committed to a psychiatric asylum, Charlie Chaplin was left to fend for himself at a very early age. Arriving in the United States at the age of 23, totally unknown in the nascent film world, he created his character of Charlie Chaplin and within a few years became the most popular (and best paid) actor in the world!

With a selection of short films accompanied by live piano music:

The Adventurer - 1916
Behind the screen - 1916
The Bank - 1915, in an all audience session
And as an encore, a short extract from The Fireman - 1916

These 3 short films present totally different aspects of Chaplin's universe:

In The Adventurer, the action is there: chases, escape by sea, The Tramp swaps his convict uniform for a dinner jacket. But the jailers are not far away…

As for "Behind the screen", it is full of situations and gags that follow one another at a steady pace. With very fine details, an allusion to homosexuality and one hell of a cream pie session!

Finally, "The Bank" tells us a story full of emotion, almost a melodrama. Made in 1915, we can already feel in this film the genius of Chaplin which will later be deployed in The Kid, one of his masterpieces, if not his absolute masterpiece.

These films are just 100 years old: a unique cinema experience!

In theatres, in cinemas or outside under the stars: simply magical!
